Below is an example of what scanning 3D objects looks like. I have chosen to scan spherical objects (three juggling balls and an elastic band ball).
I have used three different techniques to scan the same image. The first simply has the objects on the bed in a dark room. The second has a dark cloth over the top of the objects and the third has a black box covering the bed.
Covered by a Black Cloth
All three techniques capture an attractive, accurate 2D version of the 3D objects. The benefit of using a cloth or box to cover the objects is that a pattern can be applied to these and ultimately create an aesthetic background.
The downside to using a black box is that it limits the size of the objects that can be scanned. This can be combated by making a larger box to place over the scanner bed.
